After formalizing the postponement of the 24 Hours of Le Mans to the weekend of August 21-22, the ACO is reportedly reviewing the start of the World Championship campaignEndurance 2021.
Initially scheduled for April 4, the Portuguese round – the 8 Hours of Portimão – would be postponed to the weekend of… June 12-13, namely the initial date of the 89th edition of the Sarthe classic.
A decision which is explained in particular by the border restrictions set by certain countries, including the United Kingdom, which imposes a very onerous ten-day quarantine on any person entering the territory.
It is therefore to the 2021 edition of the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, scheduled for May 1, that the honor of opening the Hypercar era should go, probably preceded by the traditional pre-season tests.
The new 2021 calendar WEC would therefore be the following:
May 1: 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps
June 12-13: 8 Hours of Portimão
July 18: 6 Hours of Monza
August 21-22 : 24 Hours of Le Mans
September 26: 6 Hours of Fuji
November 20: 6 Hours of Bahrain
