Private LMP1s will gain in consumption in Shanghai

After Fuji (Japan), the WEC has revised its Technology Equivalence for the following round held on the weekend of November 17 in Shanghai (China). The private LMP1 teams complained in particular about having to drive economically by having to conserve fuel in order to respect the consumption limits per lap. The drivers therefore had to take their foot off the accelerator well before starting the braking phase.

Fuel consumption per lap will be increased by 9,9% for turbo engines and 8,5% for atmospheric units.

The new EoT has thus been put in place in order to reduce this “lift and coast” phenomenon, which will in particular make it possible to further reduce the performance gap between the non-hybrid LMP1s and the Toyota TS050 Hybrid. During the last event in Japan, the Japanese prototypes scored a double by relegating the first Rebellion R13 to 4 laps.

In GTE Pro, two changes have been made. There Ferrari 488 GTE EVO is weighed by 5 kilos while a slight reduction in engine power is applied. For its part, the news Aston Martin Vantage takes 6 kilos off the scale.
