LM P2 – Oreca considers itself “unfairly penalized” by the jokers

After the ACO allowed the introduction of jokers for three of the four manufacturers entered in LM P2 (Onroak, Dallara and Riley), the Oreca group reacted, through its president Hugues de Chaunac.

The jokers will allow these three brands to develop their chassis during the winter, both in the sprint version and in the Le Mans, while the prototype built by Oreca cannot be modified in any way. The ACO justifies this decision by the performances of the Oreca 07 during the past season. Hugues de Chaunac does not mince his words, and believes that the choice of the ACO is unfair from a sporting point of view. “We do not accept these decisions made. Through the detailed analyzes carried out and provided by Oreca, we contest its merits. »

The Oreca manager considers himself disappointed by the turn that he believes the LM P2 discipline is taking in the world championship.Endurance (WEC). “At the start of the project, all the players in LM P2 agreed on a concept of open competition between four chassis manufacturers working on the same regulatory basis and using the same engine. After less than a year of existence, we are moving towards a performance balance system which absolutely does not correspond to the original concept. »

“Oreca, by being the only manufacturer not authorized to develop its car, finds itself unfairly penalized today, just like the teams who placed their trust in us. In spirit, the performance developments were clearly intended not to leave a manufacturer in difficulty on the sidelines. Only one of us is in this situation today. »
