No BMW M8 planned for the 24 Hours of Le Mans

After just one season and results well below expectations, BMW left the WEC on the evening of the 2019 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A curious decision, which some strongly criticized, arguing that the Bavarian firm was playing it safe.

The only one of the five manufacturers entered in GTE Pro to have never tasted the joys of victory, last in the GTE Manufacturers ranking and credited with only two podiums, BMW disappointed. But the commitment IMSA in association with Team RLL being still relevant, fans harbored the secret hope of seeing the American team dear to Bobby Rahal cross the Atlantic in June, like what Corvette Racing is doing.

Hopes dampened this morning by Jens Marquardt, during a press conference given on the sidelines of the Dream Race, at Fuji Speedway. “ Today is not the plan » said the director of BMW Motorsport.

We should therefore have four manufacturers present at the start in GTE Pro, Corvette joining the regulars in the WEC what are Aston Martin, Ferrari et Porsche.
