In the torpor of the Barcelona circuit (Spain), Porsche Penske Motorsport Team (PPM) racked up the test kilometers. The LMDh prototype, dressed in camouflage livery, has in fact exceeded 2 km covered in Catalonia in mid-February 000, while the first race is scheduled for the 2022 Hours of Daytona (Florida) at the end of January 24.

The priority of these tests was to optimize the interaction between the turbo petrol V8 and the hybrid elements required by the technical regulations in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and in IMSA for LMDh. The performance of Michelin tires also benefited from particular attention during runs carried out by Felipe Nasr and Dane Cameron. More than 70 people were present to support these working sessions.

“These were my first laps in the LMDh car – a great experience, sthe Brazilian is delighted. Although the car is brand new, we managed to cover a lot of miles. It was awesome and should not be underestimated. We were even able to start the adjustment work and tire tests. My impression of the car is positive and I leave Barcelona with a smile.

I was looking forward to these first runs. Now I had the chance to finally work with the team Porsche Penske Motorsport, get behind the wheel and step on the accelerator. It was a very special experience for me and it makes me excited for everything that will happen in the future. »

His British colleague was equally enthusiastic. “I climbed the LMDh for the first time a good fortnight ago in Weissach (Porsche research & development center. Editor’s note). This was mainly functional testing. The progress made up to our first laps in Barcelona is impressive.

During the testing days we made steady progress. Every day we managed to cover more kilometers and performance improved noticeably. Of course, at this early stage of development, it's not about pushing to the limit. On the contrary: our approach is very conservative. Based on this, my impression is extremely positive, because there is still incredible potential to further improve our new car. »

These tests also made it possible to reveal the light signature of the Porsche LMDh prototype. This takes up the stylistic codes of the German brand's production GTs.
