Peugeot satisfied with the announcements in LMH and LMDh

Peugeot is still considering its return to Endurance. The Lion hesitates between the two future first categories, the LMDh and the LMH, while the ACO and theIMSA managed to achieve a convergence between the two categories which will go through a common weight, power and aero performance.

Jean-Marc Finot, Motorsports Director of the PSA Group, welcomes the progress of the project.

“We have followed with interest the evolution of the LMDH regulations and the convergence between this regulation and that of the LMHyp. We are satisfied with the ACO / IMSA / announcement WEC, in particular that the technical points linked to the BOP are confirmed, which will ensure sporting fairness between the 2 categories”he said.

“The convergence of the regulations on common mass, power and aerodynamic parameters was necessary and this was accomplished. It will be necessary to ensure that the use of two reference wind tunnels does not create distortion in the performance balance; we know that it is always a very difficult exercise to calibrate these installations. The latest economic elements should soon be available to carry out a complete assessment. Peugeot will reveal, in due time, its choice as to the category in which the Brand will return to Endurance in 2022”, he said.

We will therefore still have to wait before knowing Peugeot's choice on its future in Endurance, especially since the progress of the work has been slowed down by the coronavirus pandemic.

“During this period of confinement, the Endurance project has moved in the right direction. Despite the distance, employees remained united and motivated, research and development activity continued remotely thanks to the resources made available by Groupe PSA. The impacts of the health crisis on our design planning can be clarified. The goal is still to be present in 2022,” added Jean-Marc Finot.

“The situation we are going through is unprecedented, he recalled. For the WEC as for other championships, promoters, organizers and federations have become aware that the demands for marketing profitability in Motorsport will be greater. Post-crisis motorsport will have to show greater social and environmental responsibility and its costs will have to be significantly reduced. We should not hesitate to be disruptive: priority should be given to attractiveness and spectacle rather than the unreasonable technological developments that we have experienced. A race against time is underway to ensure the sustainability of the sector. It is by meeting these challenges that federations, promoters, organizers, manufacturers, teams, drivers and fans will be able to continue this wonderful adventure. »
