At the wheel of their Peugeot 908 HDi FAP, David Brabham, Marc Gené and Alexander Wurz did not make the slightest mistake on the course and, accompanied by the sister car of the French Sarrazin-Montagny-Bourdais, led the Sochalian brand to the double in this 77th edition.
This success can be described as historic, because it comes for David Brabham 16 years after the victory of his brother Geoff (in the ranks of Peugeot Sport, already!), while Wurz signed his second success in Sarthe in three participations, its first in 1997 having ended in a victory on its debut. As for Marc Gené, he perfectly illustrates the possibilities, for a pilot still active in F1 – he is a test pilot at Ferrari -, to lead two programs at a high level.
Despite his two consecutive victories in Greece and Poland which make him the new leader of the world rally championship ahead of Sébastien Loeb, Mikko Hirvonen takes 2nd place in this poll and is easily ahead of Guerlain Chicherit, although victorious in the World Cup rally-raid. See you next week to discover the names of the three drivers nominated for the month of June.
