Porsche presents its new 911 RSR

Like AUTOhebdo has been talking about it since last February, this 911 RSR has an engine placed in a central rear position, the main novelty compared to its predecessor whose flat-6 was placed in the traditional rear overhang position, a Zuffenhausen trademark. With its displacement increased to 4 liters, the in-house 6-cylinder engine develops nearly 510 hp.

“While retaining the typical 911 design, this is the biggest evolution in the history of our GT model, explained Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, head of Porsche Motorsport.

For the 911 RSR, we deliberately focused on a particularly modern and lightweight naturally aspirated engine, because this gave our engineers a lot of latitude in the development of the vehicle. (especially with the adoption of a larger diffuser).

Apart from this, in principle, the GTE and GTLM rules stipulate the absolute equality of the different powertrain concepts, because the torque characteristics of turbo and naturally aspirated engines are aligned. »

Beyond the novelty, the engine, transmission, suspension and aerodynamic concept are new. The new diffuser and the new rear wing fitted from the Porsche LM P1 prototype will allow for better aerodynamic efficiency.

Two cars will be entered for the year in WEC and IMSA, and the debut will be scheduled for the 24 Hours of Daytona (January 28-29).
