Richelmi joins Mission H24

Without a steering wheel since the premature end of the Ginetta adventure in LM P1 in 2019, Stéphane Richelmi will put on his helmet again in Endurance, but on board an innovative prototype. The Monegasque, world endurance champion (WEC) in 2016 in LM P2 and winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans the same year in this same category, will drive the hydrogen H24 in Michelin Le Mans Cup in 2021.

“A very promising technology, a new sporting challenge, a hyper-motivated team, permanent challenges to take up, I am starting with MissionH24 the most exciting adventure of my sporting career, declares the person concerned. This week I took the wheel of the LMPH2G and the new H24 for the first time and discovered two things: firstly, the particularities of driving a prototype equipped with a fuel cell; secondly, I was able to assess the progress made between the old car and the new one. The step taken is already very impressive in terms of weight and power, and the development potential is very significant.

Always finding more performance is what Norman Nato, Stoffel Vandoorne and I are going to work on before the H24 starts in competition. I appreciate the privilege that the three of us have to pave the way for all the drivers who, in 2024, will be at the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans at the wheel of electric-hydrogen prototypes: we are their scouts. We are writing a new page in motorsport. »

Jean-Michel Bouresche, Operations Manager of MissionH24 and Team Principal of H24Racing, highlights the qualities of his new recruit. “ I am happy that Stéphane is joining our racing team. An experienced driver, already victorious in Endurance in several categories and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, both a very good driver and passionate about development, he brings us his experience and his demands, which are added to those of our two other drivers, Norman Nato and Stoffel Vandoorne. Step by step, the H24Racing team contributes to achieving the objectives of the MissionH24 program: preparing the arrival of prototypes with electric-hydrogen propulsion at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2024.”
