Sarah Bovy (Ferrari) wrote a piece of World Championship historyEndurance (WEC) this Saturday July 9 on the Monza circuit (Italy). The Belgian became the first woman to achieve a pole position since the creation of the discipline in 2012 thanks to an exemplary lap aboard the pink Ferrari 488 GTE.

The team driver Iron Ladies was happy to see that “Things are moving in the right direction” regarding the presence of women in motorsport, but the greatest reason for pride concerned sporting performance, regardless of gender.

« We were chasing this first pole. Even if this does not define our final position in the race, it gives us a point in the championship and above all, it is good for the morale of the troops, She says. This rewards us for the hard work we have done since the start of the season. The car was awesome! This is the result of work that we are carrying out with my teammates Michelle (Gatting), Rachel (Frey) and the whole stable. »

At the scene of her thunderous debut in GTE Am at world level in the summer of 2021, Sarah Bovy managed to remobilize herself even though the session did not go as she wanted. “I had a very bad qualifying until my last lap. I was making too many mistakes and approximations. Fortunately, I managed to refocus at the right time. I thought, “Don’t pit with the fourth fastest time, otherwise they’ll send me home!” » (laughs)!

I feel extremely lucky to be given the opportunity to put it all together in qualifying. It’s great that it’s happening at Monza where I made my World Championship debut last year! »
