Toyota continues in EL2 at Le Mans

The second free practice session of 24 Hours of Le Mans 2020 saw the Toyota Gazoo Racing double the stake after EL1. The TS050 Hybrid n°8 Sébastien Buemi - Kazuki Nakajima - Brendon Hartley was the fastest with the best time in 3'19″719, more than eight tenths ahead of Lopez’s No. 7 – Conway - Kobayashi.

The No. 13 Rebellion R3 of Romain Dumas – Louis Delétraz – Nathanaël Berthon takes third place, more than 3″ behind. Note that the Rebellion n°1 of Menezes – Senna – Nato did not set a time with barely two laps on the clock and an intervention on the engine of the non-hybrid LM P1.

Racing Team Nederland places itself at the forefront in LM P2 with the Oreca 07 n°29 of Nyck de Vries – Giedo van der Garde – Frits van Eerd, authors of the reference in 3'27″185 and 4th overall.

Ho-Pin Tung, Will Stevens and Gabriel Aubry (Oreca 07 n°37 – Jackie Chan DC Racing) and the trio Felix da Costa – Gonzalez – Davidson (Oreca 07 n°38 – JOTA Sport) made a nice group shot in 2nd and 3rd positions.

Porsche replica in GTE

After Aston Martin in EL1, Porsche increased the pace in EL2, since Michael Christensen, supported by Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor (Porsche 911 RSR n°92) leads the GTE Pro category in this session in 3'52"783, more than half a second ahead of the Aston Martin Vantage n°97 of Maxime Martin – Alex Lynn – Harry Tincknell.

Followed by the Porsche n°91 of Bruni – Lietz – Makowiecki and the first Ferrari 488 GTE n°62 – WeatherTech Racing by Vilander – Segal – MacNeil. The first GTE Am, the No. 911 Porsche 77 RSR – Dempsey-Proton Racing from Ried – Pera – Campbell, finished 5th in GTE.

Several incidents punctuated the session, with two red flags caused by the IDEC Sport clan. First it was Paul Lafargue who came out with the No. 07 Oreca 28 at the second Hunaudières chicane.

The driver got out of her prototype, a car which appeared quite damaged with a damaged chassis. A car will be reassembled during the night and the No. 28 will be absent from qualifying.

A decidedly difficult afternoon in the IDEC Sport clan since after Paul Lafargue went off the track in the No. 28 Oreca, it was Dwight Merriman who made a mistake at the level of the Karting and who hit the tire walls with the No. 17 Oreca.

The driver got out of his car, but the sky blue LM P2 is damaged on its front and will require work from the mechanics. The session was also neutralized under a red flag regime while the damaged prototype was evacuated.

Other avatars for Cool Racing with an exit from the track at the Junction, but without seriousness, the No. 01 Oreca 42 having returned to the pits.

Qualifying will begin at 17:15 p.m. for a duration of 45′ to determine the six best crews in each category, who will be admitted to compete in the Hyperpole tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
