A Porsche Hybrid at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring

Porsche has just announced its official presence at the next 24 Hours of the Nürburgring, which will take place from June 23 to 26, 2011 on the large 26 km track, with a 911 GT3 R Hybrid. The same one that almost won in 2010, for its first participation.

Porsche stipulates in passing that its hybrid system, more advanced than last year, benefits from a weight reduction of around 20%, reducing the weight of the car from 1350 to 1300 kg. This 911 GT3 R Hybrid does not aim to go faster, but to consume less fuel, which will allow it to save numerous pit stops to refuel. However, the Zuffenhausen firm specifies that the power of the two electric motors increases from 60 to 75 kW (from 80 to 100 hp), i.e. a cumulative electrical power of 200 hp available for 7 to 8 seconds, several times per revolution. . This additional power, depending on the electronic programming selected, will be managed automatically or by the pilot according to needs.

At the moment, if no driver name has been announced, it would not be surprising if the big names in endurance racing from Porsche, Romain Dumas and Timo Bernhard, are in the game.
