A final step to take for Mark Webber

It is a taste of unfinished business that persists for Mark Webber when discussing the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After the years Mercedes, marked by his spectacular flight in 1999, the former pilot Red Bull Racing en F1 n’a pas pu profiter de son arrivée dans le clan Porsche pour s’imposer dans la Sarthe.

After retiring in 2014, the outgoing world champion finished second last year with his teammates Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley behind the wheel of the 919 Hybrid. “Here is another incredible opportunity for us to achieve something special, confesses Webber. We have one last step to take and we would like to win together.

First of all, we will have to plot our route for 24 hours. We know that it is not an easy race to tackle in terms of organization, but also in relation to traffic, latecomers and the weather. We have a lot of respect, but we feel ready. We are confident, nothing more, but we could not do more to prepare for the race. We have as good a chance as anyone to fight for victory. »

Porsche will present itself as defending champion in Sarthe next week, having scored its 17th success in 2015 with the trio Hulkenberg – Tandy – Bamber. “In 2015, we managed three cars, with a hat-trick on the grid, and celebrated a double, recalls Team Principal Andreas Seidl.

Technically and operationally, we are better prepared than ever. But we are also aware of the importance of the challenge to survive the week of the race. »
