WEC – 2H: The GTE Pro leads the game in Sao Paulo

Audi retains the lead at the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo, helped by the retirement of Toyota. The No. 1 Audi, now driven by André Lotterer, has taken the lead and is a handful of seconds ahead of the No. 2 sister car driven by Tom Kristensen. Nick Heidfeld is at the wheel of the Lola B12/60 Coupé-Toyota on the provisional podium. Mike conway is still at the head of the LMP2 category in the Oreca 03 of G-Drive Racing which is ahead of the Oreca 03 of PeCom Racing and the Zytek of Greaves Motorsport.

The positions are more anarchic in GTE Pro which experienced several twists and turns during this last hour of the race. After the intervention of the safety car which lasted almost an hour, the marshals had to repair the barriers following at the exit of Stéphane Sarrazin, Porsche returned to the forefront with the No. 911 91 RSR of Jörg Bergmeister. Shortly after the restart, the Ferrari No. 71 AF Corse of Toni Vilander caught fire, forcing the Finn to quickly leave the car. The safety car intervened again.

The Stuttgart car which was at the head of the category lost time following a spin following Jack Gerber's spin on the #71 Ferrari entered in GTE Am. Giancarlo Fisichella now finds himself in the lead on the #51 Ferrari in front of theAston Martin #97 of Stefan Mücke, while the #91 Porsche occupies third place. On the other hand, the race is over for Bruno Senna who broke the rear suspension of the No. 99 Vantage when he spun following contact. The British manufacturer, on the other hand, dominates the GTE Am with the No. 95 of Christoffer Nygaard in the lead ahead of the No. 96 of Jamie Campbell-Walter.
