WEC – The LMP2 season in a few figures

Olivier Pla's accident at the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo (Brazil), betrayed by a mechanical failure of the Ligier JSP2 when he approached Senna's S, put an end to the duel between G-Drive Racing and SMP Racing. The Russian team which entered two Oreca 03R-Nissans in WEC picked up 6 titles this season with the coronation of Sergey Zlobin, added to those of the GTE and GTC won in ELMS.

The Russian was the only one to lift the LMP2 champion's cup after having been the only competitor to compete the eight WEC events on the No. 27. Zlobin can nevertheless thank his teammate Nicolas Minassian. The Frenchman is the only LMP2 driver to have scored at least one podium since the WEC debuted in 2012.

G-Drive Racing does not have to be ashamed of its performances, however. The Franco-Russian team has won seven poles in eight qualifications and won half of the races. It is also with this team that the Ligier JSP2 scored its first success, during the 6 Hours of Fuji (Japan).

Nine LMP2 prototypes competed in the six-hour events this season: the Morgan and the Ligier from G-Drive, the two Oreca 03s from SMP Racing, the Oreca 03 from KCMG, the Morgan from Oak Racing, the Zytek-Nissan from Jota Sport and the two HPD ARX-03a from Extreme Speed Motorsports. That makes a total of five chassis and three engines.

Since the beginnings of the WEC which has offered 24 races so far, Oreca is the most successful manufacturer with 13 victories won by four teams. Morgan follows with 4 victories and Honda with 3. Ligier and Zytek complete the list with 2 victories. Nissan clearly dominates its subject with 21 events won against 3 for Honda.

All data is available on the official WEC website.
