Williams equips the Audi R18 e-tron quattro

Audi finally chose to trust Williams Hybrid Power to equip its two R18 e-tron quattros with a flywheel which will face the Toyota TS030 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the WEC Championship.

Williams equips the Audi R18 e-tron quattro

Williams is joining forces with Audi Motorsport to equip the hybrid system of the two R18 e-tron quattros which will compete at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (May 3-5). The Grove-based structure is developing a brand new ultra-light flywheel which will be associated with the manufacturer's other electronic components. The system will offer a power of 150kW and will have a maximum rotation speed of 45 rpm. The British firm is working on the reliability and lifespan of this system which will have to withstand a 000-hour race. Kinetic energy will be redistributed to the front wheels in addition to the propulsion of the V24 TDI.

It is a real achievement for Williams? hybrid department to have been selected by Audi, as confirmed by Ian Foley, director of management of the Grove subsidiary. “Having been selected by Audi, the biggest winners in the current history of Le Mans, is proof of the progress made by Williams Hybrid Power despite its recent creation. Audi has achieved ten victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans since the year 2000 and we are really proud and honored to have been selected to work with them. This level of involvement in motorsport represents the ultimate goal for our electric flywheel technology. »
