Accustomed to dominating on tracks in Formula 1, the Briton built this new creation with the same perspective. “ If we make a car for the track, what do we define as its attributes, asks Adrian Newey. We decided to have F1 levels of performance in something that was relatively comfortable, relatively easy to operate, and that you could drive at any speed up to the performance limit at the F1. »

Superior performance to the Aston Martin Valkyrie

Indeed, Red Bull Racing Group's very first hypercar was not designed as a road car. “ We rely a lot more on what we know and I think if it was a car designed as a road car we would be tied to higher sums, we don't feel comfortable doing that at this time. stadium », Explains the technical director of Red Bull.

The Red Bull RB17 is still under development. The two Formula 1 drivers from the Austrian team should make their contribution. “ It will be their choice to purchase one of these cars but we clearly intend to use all the skills we have in the testing and development of the cars », specifies Adrian Newey.

After participating in the development of the Valkyrie, the Briton put on his warm-up blue. This experience will allow him to correct details such as weight to achieve performance “ significantly superior " what'Aston Martin Valkyrie. “ I think the most important thing, of course, is to try to reduce the weight, so there will be a lot of effort on that. Power is relatively easy these days, as engine technology has progressed. Then it's just a matter of ensuring that aerodynamics is the other important factor contributing to performance, and we'll use a few tricks from the past to achieve this. » Adrian Newey's previous creation being approved for the road, technical constraints had put barriers in his quest for performance.

No supplier yet for the RB17 engine

From the mention of its name, Red Bull has displayed the objective of this project. “ Since this car has real F1 performance, it seemed only right that it would be part of that lineage and receive the 17 “, explains Christian Horner. One of the last remaining shadows concerns the supplier of the 8 horsepower hybrid V1.100 engine. “ We are currently considering how we will proceed, explains Adrian Newey. As you know, we now have our own in-house engine department, Red Bull Powertrains, a young company. Likewise, we can turn to other specialists. »
