Alesi: “Joining and overtaking Mercedes”

Did this race (the German GP, editor’s note) have you glued to your seat?
Yes, from start to finish! From the first to the last round, it was tense and unpredictable. It was very close and the victory of Lewis Hamilton was only decided in the very last laps. It was a superb race.

Lotus Renault GP saves a point at the Nürburgring thanks to Vitaly Petrov's 10th place. It seems that the team is struggling in the middle of the pack. Are you worried ?

The team is working hard to find solutions, but we all want better results and we have higher ambitions than a 10th place. Yes, it's a championship point and we can be proud to have scored in every race this year. But we can do much better. The team is working on modifications which should appear in Hungary next weekend. I hope they will work so that we can catch up and surpass Mercedes in the championship. We also need to understand why Force India were faster than us this weekend because we should be clearly ahead of them.

Nick Heidfeld suffered a rather dramatic accident when Sébastien Buemi pushed him off the track on the 10th lap. He had become a passenger in his car, right?
It was quite spectacular on the TV screens and we are happy that Nick was unhurt. It?s not very pleasant to fly through the air like that but fortunately, the gravel trap did its job well. Buemi should have seen Nick. He didn't give her any space. Without a doubt, Nick is an innocent victim in the case.

Vitaly put in a courageous performance. What do you think of his defenses against Jenson Button and Michael Schumacher ?

Vitaly proves that he is a true fighter who never gives up. He can make his car very wide, but it still looks correct. So I think he did a good job of staying in front for so long and he probably made the most of his opportunities.

The cold temperature seemed to suit McLaren et Ferrari what to Red Bull and Lotus Renault GP. Will the Red Bulls be on top again in Hungary and will these conditions suit LRGP?
I think something has changed. Not for Red Bull, but for Ferrari and McLaren. They have taken a leap forward and now Red Bull must hang on. The temperatures this weekend did not seem to really affect LRGP as the cars qualified correctly, 9th and 11th. It seems clear to me that we have lost ground on the competition and we quickly need new elements capable of boosting performance to be able to fight.
