Alonso provided the essential

Fernando Alonso, fifth on the starting grid for the Brazilian Grand Prix, can be satisfied with his third final place. The Spaniard quickly took the measure of Lewis Hamilton (McLaren), before stumbling upon Nico Hulkenberg (Williams), quickly overtaken by the pilots Red Bull but remained in third position for several laps. After overtaking the German, Alonso found himself more than ten seconds behind Hag and Webber. His final third place allowed him to keep the two men at bay in the general championship classification, before the last race.

« All things considered, I'm happy with this result. I only lost three points on my closest rival. Given how things went in qualifying, I would have signed straight away for such a result! », Explains the native of Oviedo, who also has a thought for his opponents. “ I would like to congratulate Red Bull and Renault for the manufacturers title. Reaching the top level in just a few years is a great achievement. »

If he finished third, Alonso believes he could have had an opportunity to catch the Red Bull drivers. “ When the safety car came on track we thought it was a good opportunity to attack. Unfortunately, there were too many latecomers between Mark and me and it took too long to pass them. It's a shame because, at that time, the car was very competitive. »
