The destinies were diametrically opposed this Sunday for the two drivers Alpine. One Or with saw his good streak come to an end following a loss of pressure on the engine, Alonso achieved his best result since his return to the premier category: “I’m happy for the team. We took some good points and I think we deserved them after a difficult weekend. The last few laps were a lot of fun and we tried to attack and be aggressive to gain some places.”
“El matador” believes, however, that most of the work still remains to be done: “It was a good weekend for us, but we lacked a bit of pace in the race. So we have to analyze that, but I am satisfied with this day and we want to do the same in France.”
For its sports director Martin Budkowski, this sixth place will be a boost Alpine after a complicated weekend: “Fernando's performance, gaining four positions to finish sixth, is heartwarming and rewards the hard work of everyone in the team. He is back with an extremely competitive mindset and we must now work together to regain our level for the next round in France.”
The French team renamed its star driver “Magic Alonso” after the race. Let's hope for them that the good momentum continues during their national Grand Prix on the Paul Ricard circuit in two weeks.
