Andreas Seidl: “Our race was compromised from the start”

McLaren brought home only two points from the Hungarian Grand Prix last weekend. Carlos Sainz took ninth place, while Lando Norris, twirling at the start of the season, finished 13e, apart from the points. A very meager nest egg, compared to the 39 accumulated over the two previous races. “Unfortunately, after two very good weekends, our race in Hungary was compromised from the start »reacted team principal Andreas Seidl.

Norris, who started eighth, missed his takeoff. “Lando had a problem after the line which cost him a lot of positions, but he fought and came back to thirteenth position. »

On the fifth lap, Sainz then found himself in traffic jams. “We had no luck. He lost several positions after his pit stop. The lane was blocked by other cars, preventing him from leaving his spot. It took a lot of driving on his part to move up to tenth position. » This became ninth after the downgrading of Kevin Magnussen (Haas).

Despite these Hungarian setbacks, Mclaren can smile at the end of the first three grand prix. The British team has a podium and 41 points, its best start since 2014. And above all, it remains third in the constructor's championship. “We will take away a lot of positive things from this opening stint, but we also know that there are areas where we need to improve. We will use the time we have before Silverstone to do it. » The team will have at least two races to show at home.
