Among the victorious teams this season, there is Ferrari, Red Bull… and soon Mercedes ? The German team moved closer to victory in the last Grands Prix before the summer break, culminating in George Russell's pole position in Hungary. On an upward dynamic, the Silver Arrows are no longer hiding: from now on, the objective is to win, and to do so as quickly as possible. If there is one who believes in it firmly, it is Lewis Hamilton.

Asked at a press conference about a possible victory in this second part of the season, the seven-time world champion did not procrastinate. “Yes, definitely! Of course we have improved, we have had this consistency which has appeared in the last races and the great progress that the team has made. Everyone pulled together and kept pushing. »

The Briton said the Mercedes W13 had truly become " a race car " on the last Grands Prix, compared to the start of the season. Enough to make him optimistic about the rest of the season. “The last race was obviously the best performance we've had so far. For us, it was a huge boost to know that we can close this gap. It's naturally going to continue to be difficult, we're going to keep our heads down. The other teams are doing an incredible job, but I really believe we can close the gap. »

Spa, first opportunity for Mercedes and Hamilton?

The quest for a first victory this season for Mercedes begins this weekend, at Spa-Francorchamps. The Silver Arrows could have a first opportunity to win if Red Bull and Ferrari decide to suffer engine penalties for Verstappen and Leclerc.

If the nature of the Spa track does not favor the characteristics of the W13, Toto wolff hopes his team can be in the battle. “While we're not quite in the fight for wins yet, we're getting closer, explains the Austrian director. We must continue the momentum and maintain the pressure. (…) We are ready for an intense second half of the season. There are nine more opportunities to find improvements, progress and hopefully challenge Red Bull and Ferrari for wins. »
