After 5 years spent more or less in the shadow of Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas decided to leave Mercedes for real. Never considered a real contender for the title and often asked not to attack his teammate or to let him pass, the Finn left forAlfa Romeo this season to become the spearhead of the new project of the Hinwil team (Switzerland).

Within the Italian-Swiss entity, it is in a completely different environment that Valtteri Bottas seems to live. Starting from a champion team among the Manufacturers for 8 years in a row and 7 among the drivers (2014-2020), the native of Nastola has lifted a big weight from his shoulders which allows him to live more peacefully today.

Far from Mercedes, Valtteri Bottas has had a convincing start to the season. Freed from the pressure of victory that he previously had with the Germans, the Finn showed great realism to string together good results Grand Prix after Grand Prix. What is most impressive is his consistency with 5 passages in Q3 in qualifying and 6 points finishes in 7 Grands Prix. A nice balance sheet when making a first analysis of his beginnings with Alfa Romeo.

« It's a very good start to the season with solid performances in qualifying and in the race, recognizes Valtteri Bottas. I'm in a happy place, I can really try to show the best version of myself and ride the way I want. » One of the reasons for his well-being within Alfa Romeo is due to the atmosphere that reigns in the team.

« The atmosphere in the team is so motivating, underlines the main interested party. The guys give it their all and it inspires me to do the same. However, there are obviously still areas for improvement. We have to work on our starts which were not very good. We are also working on the stability of the car at high speeds. We haven't reached our limit, there's more to come »

Although satisfied with his personal results after 7 rounds in 2022, Valtteri Bottas does not intend to slow down and believes that he and Alfa Romeo can “do even better”.
