Brawn: Gasly rewarded “for his tenacity and talent”

Pierre Gasly made an impression by taking second place behind Max Verstappen (Red Bull) at the Brazilian GP played last Sunday at Interlagos. The final result was even more astonishing since it was the youngest podium in the history of the F1 with an average age of 23 years, 8 months and 13 days.

If the facts of the race made it possible to have this unprecedented podium, Ross Brawn was keen to point out that this result was deserved for the resident of Toro Rosso who had a difficult season with his demotion in the Red Bull organization chart.

“Gasly was best placed to take advantage of the absence of top teams, but he was consistently in the right place at the right time, whether in qualifying or in the race.”, recalled the former director of Mercedes F1.

“It’s a big boost for Pierre at the end of a roller coaster year, added Liberty Media's Motor Sports director. His return to Toro Rosso was seen as a step backwards for the 2016 GP2 champion, but he was not fazed by the move and he has shown impressive performances since his return to Faenza and he can hope to finish 6th championship rank. Last Sunday's result was a reward for his tenacity and efforts. »

If Pierre Gasly occupies 6th place in the Drivers ranking tied on points with Carlos Sainz Jr. (McLaren) who completed the podium of the Brazilian GP, Toro Rosso can also hope to take 5th place in the Constructors' championship after returning to 8 points behind Renault.
