Logan sargeant a foot and a half in Formula 1. After his first official session on Friday during Free Practice 1 in Austin, the American is in pole position to be started by Williams in 2023.

Jost Capito, team director of Grove (UK), confirmed this Saturday morning in Texas that Sargeant will be lined up alongsideAlexander albon in 2023… if he validates his Superlicence!

To do this, Logan Sargeant must finish in the Top 5 of the championship. Formula 2. The Carlin driver is currently 3rd in the championship before the last round of the season, in Abu Dhabi.

To help him in his quest for a Superlicense, Williams also announced that the Floridian would do two additional Free Practice sessions, in Mexico and Abu Dhabi. Each of his appearances can earn him an additional point on the path to Superlicence.

By completing EL1 of the United States GP, the native of Boca Raton (Florida) has 28 points. Two new clean sessions (i.e. driving greater than or equal to 100 kilometers) would grant him two additional units.

He would therefore be missing 10 to win the precious sesame, delivered after obtaining 40 points or more in the promotion formulas.

Largeant will also participate in the rookie tests organized in Abu Dhabi after the last event of the 2022 season (November 18-20).

If he manages to bag the Superlicence, the 21-year-old will become the first American driver to start F1 since Alexandre Red, who did several stints with Manor at the end of the 2015 season.

It will be remembered that earlier this season Red Bull had tried to enlist Californian Colton Herta to place him with Alpha Tauri replacing a Pierre Gasly leaving for Alpine.

Despite a rich record of several victories in IndyCar, Herta was declared ineligible for the Superlicence by the FIA and therefore had to put his F1 dreams on the shelf for the moment.

The more than likely tenure of Sargeant would in any case be excellent news for F1 and Liberty Media, which is seeking to anchor their presence on the American continent, which will host no less than 3 races from 2023 (Miami, Austin, Las Vegas ).

And to think that less than 2 years ago, Sargeant, 3rd in the championship Formula 3 2020 was without a steering wheel…
