Among the 4 young drivers present during Free Practice 1 of the United States Grand Prix on Friday, he was the one who attracted the most attention. Logan sargeant, 22 years old on December 31, will perhaps be a pilot of Formula 1 next season. The Floridian, member of the academy Williams, is in pole position to replace Nicholas latifi in 2023. At the Circuit of the Americas, the Grove team gave him a nice gift: a first official appearance in F1, and what's more, in front of his home crowd!

If the time in Free Practice 1 is not very representative, with a 19th position for the young American, Logan Sargeant was able to get a taste of a weekend as an F1 driver. “I think the main goal today was to learn as much as possible. And I feel like I learned a lot, confided the Floridian. It was very different from what I expected, but in a good way. There's still a lot of potential to exploit and improve, but I think it was a good start and I'm happy with how it went. »

Sargeant, a future that will be played out in Abu Dhabi

The main thing was also elsewhere for Sargeant: to prove that he has the human and sporting maturity to acquire a seat with Williams from 2023. If the Grove team seems to be convinced on its two points, there remains one detail to be resolved, and not the least: the Super License.

Currently, the American has 28 points on the clock for the Super License. Before the last round in Abu Dhabi, Logan Sargeant is 3rd in Formula 2. A top 5 in the championship would be enough for him to obtain the points necessary to obtain the precious sesame. Problem: Liam Lawson, 7th in the driver standings, is only 12 points behind the American… And if the Floridian finishes outside the top 5, he will not be able to be promoted to Formula 1 in 2023.

An uncertainty which is currently blocking any formalization from Williams. Logan Sargeant cannot yet detail his plans for next season. " Honestly, I do not know. As you know, I need to achieve good results in Abu Dhabi to obtain my Super License. That's the main focus right now. I have to secure my place in the Top 3 in the [Formula 2] championship. » Will we see Sargeant alongsideAlbon in 2023? Response on November 20 to Yas Marina!
