Carsten Tilke: “Jeddah will be a magnificent circuit! »

Saudi Arabia will join the calendar of the Formula 1 this season. The Jeddah circuit is currently under construction north of the city center. Carsten Tilke, Hermann Tilke's son, is supervising the project which is supposed to come to life on December 5.

“Jeddah will be a different kind of street circuit, admits Tilke. Something that has never been seen before. This is the first time we have undertaken such a project. Even though Jeddah is a street circuit, we had to build everything from scratch. The circuit is located on a ledge with a magnificent landscape by the Red Sea. »

The son of the German architect also mentioned the route, promising a spectacle in Saudi Arabia.

“The circuit will be extraordinary, promises Carsten Tilke. There will be a very difficult fast section but which the drivers will love. We will also have a 12 degree banked turn and we think this will make overtaking easier. But also a section in a stadium surrounded by several stands. I promise there won't be any 90° turns because it's not particularly exciting for the driver and spectator. It will be the fastest urban circuit in terms of average speed, estimated at 252 km/h. »

The Jeddah circuit will thus have 27 turns and will be 6,17 km long. A few days ago, the organizers announced that the public would be allowed since the ticket office was opened on the Grand Prix site.
