Charles Pic expects a memorable weekend in Canada

As he tells it, Charles Pic has good memories in Montreal. ?I raced for the first time in Canada last year and it was one of my best races of the season, not so much in terms of raw results (20th place in 2012 at the finish, Editor's note) but above all because of the atmosphere on the track which was really great”. According to the Caterham driver, the Quebec meeting is one of those which arouses the most enthusiasm there. “We go to certain Grands Prix where the circuit is full of supporters from Thursday morning, and Montreal is one of them. I guess having Jacques and Gilles Villeneuve as heroes made the F1 necessarily special for Montreal fans, but I think that above all they love it! »

Beyond the atmosphere, the Drômois explains that it is a circuit full of challenges. “The track is a real challenge. It is a semi-urban circuit, with the slides very close for a large part of the lap and a very technical design. The surface is not abrasive and there is little grip on Friday morning. The grip evolves throughout the weekend but it remains difficult for the tires despite everything, and managing the levels of degradation will be even more important than usual?, warns the Frenchman.

“There are a certain number of very hard braking moments and you have to be able to attack them really hard to get a good time. You have to be able to approach the curbs frankly to both maintain speed and save time. » Two areas on which the French driver will focus during free practice “in order to be sure to be able to attack frankly without losing stability and balance”. “If you manage to master all these elements well, then you feel real satisfaction at the end of each lap because everything goes very quickly and the pleasure you feel in an F1 car is immense! », concludes Charles Pic.
