Claire Williams: “We adhere to the general philosophy” for 2021

Is what you are currently experiencing proof that it is less and less possible for a private team to exist without a solid link with a manufacturer?

Aren't we living proof that it's still possible? The question has been asked for quite a few years now, but we survive. It has become incredibly difficult to attract new sponsors, but we still manage.

We have been fighting for a long time with the leaders of this sport to make our voice heard, to change the structures. It finally seems to be going in the right direction.

Do the latest discussions relating to 2021 give you hope for a better tomorrow?

We are still waiting for a concrete technical charter, but we fully adhere to the general philosophy. Regarding the capped budget, the redistribution of income, etc., what is being discussed is taking the direction we hoped for.

What state of mind are your drivers in?

Positive, combative and supportive. They are real pilots Williams. They have an incredible time with the team. They leave nothing to chance and, above all, they do not let doubt or gloom settle in. Georges has everything it takes to succeed. He has technical feedback that I haven't seen in a rookie for a long time.

He has a great personality and has a bright future in the discipline ahead of him. As soon as we are able to put a more capable machine in his hands, he will do great things.

As for Robert, it is rare to come across such a passionate pilot, and it is a great pride to have him with us. He was the great hope of F1 before his accident, and the tenacity he displayed to come back, to rebuild everything, deserves more than a simple bravo. Robert is going to be a central part of our return.
