Coronavirus: patience must take precedence for Andreas Seidl

Andreas Seidl does not seem to want to rush things. The team director of Mclaren racing, which saw several of its employees infected with the coronavirus, discussed the first prospects of a return to competition during a telephone press conference organized last Wednesday.

The thinking head of the British structure first recalled that the F1 was constrained by government measures in the countries on the calendar.

“It is a very difficult subject because it depends on many aspects, he commented. The most important thing is to keep people safe and we can only resume racing when we know people are safe. It will then be necessary to study the possibilities of each person's travel depending on the country, whether to leave or return to the territory. We just have to wait to know the countries' decisions and see if the races can take place. »

“It will also be necessary to know the decisions of the promoters, in particular with numerous changes of dates for the races. Promoters need to consider the viability of a postponement from a commercial perspective”, added Andreas Seidl.

The German engineer nevertheless believes that the recovery will mainly depend on the public.

“An important point for the resumption is that the public must first be sure about the resumption of the tests, he said. We will only be able to resume until we have the protective equipment, a sufficient number of tests, and everything is first available to everyone before using it for the competition. In my opinion, there is a great desire among the public for sporting events to resume, particularly with the confinements, even if it is only on television. »

F1 will be on hiatus until at least the summer with the French and Belgian Grands Prix also likely to be postponed.
