The announcement had been awaited for several months. Williams confirmed the second seat goes to the Russian Sergey Sirotkin, while the Pole Robert Kubica must be satisfied with reserve and development pilot status.

The 2018 lineup Formula 1 is thus officially complete. There will be two beginners; besides Sergey Sirotkin with Williams, Charles Leclerc enters the discipline throughAlfa Romeo Sauber and replace Felipe Massa and Pascal Wehrlein. The other teams entered extend their duo of drivers observed during the last rounds of 2017, such as Renault (Nico Hulkenberg et Carlos Sainz Jr) or Toro Rosso (Pierre Gasly et Brendon Hartley).

There will always be four world champion drivers in activity (Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Räikkönen and Fernando Alonso). The most experienced pair is at Ferrari with 469 GPs achieved by Kimi Räikkönen (271) and Sebastian Vettel (198). The crew with the least experience is to be found on the side of Williams: 20 GPs accomplished by the only Lance stroll (in 2017).
