Ecclestone: 'It would be terrible to lose Williams'

The worrying situation of Williams worries people in the field. The former director of the F1 Bernie Ecclestone has seen the British private team through the decades, but the situation of Grove's structure is now pushing its leaders to seek investors.

“I'm trying to find people who could get involved, but it's an expensive business to have a team, explained the former F1 financier to the AFP agency. It would be the end of an era, but I hope we find someone who can lead the team properly. It would be terrible to lose such a team because it is historic. »

If the financial crisis linked to the coronavirus has precipitated Williams F1 to take measures to sustain its future, Bernie Ecclestone believes that the management of the team has not been up to the task.

“Poor Frank (Williams, the team's founder) worked very hard to get his team there. It's not a good thing if it disappears. Unfortunately, the current management does not have the same status as Frank,” added Bernie Ecclestone.

Williams has seen his financial losses multiply after a series of poor results in recent years while his income depends directly on his performances on the track.
