More work on the general balance of the RS20 for Ocon

Si Daniel Ricciardo has just experienced a loss of power and stopped its Renault RS20 on track in Spain, a few minutes ago at the time of writing these lines, Esteban Ocon had already completed its program for the inaugural week of 2020 winter testing.

The Norman, back in the Renault fold after his time with Force India and Mercedes, was able to explore the limits of his car this Friday, and thus draw a clearer direction on its expectations for the second week of running.

“This morning was really interesting in terms of feeling, admits the former GP3 Series champion. Yesterday afternoon we did a lot of aero work, without any actual flying. We could focus more on feelings and limits today.

We have a clear picture and we are going in the same direction with Daniel, which is always good. It’s a good start, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do next week.

We still need to work on the behavior of the car, in relation to the general balance. We are not exactly where we want to be, but nothing insoluble. I would like to reach the last day seeing that we have found the right balance and that the car is good to drive before Melbourne. »

With Daniel Ricciardo, Esteban Ocon is driving a car that has evolved significantly since 2019, including a redesigned front end. “The car is a real step forward from last year, describes the Frenchman. It’s clearly the best car I’ve ever driven in. The grip is just great.

We worked a lot on the simulator over the winter, and when we put the car on the track there were a lot of similarities. This is a very good sign. »
