FIA: Gerhard Berger wants to simplify access to F1

Gerhard Berger works within the FIA to improve the promotion formulas where young drivers compete to try to rise to the level of the F1. As President of the Commission car, the ten-time Grand Prix winner set about modernizing the F3 by recreating this year the European F3 Championship on the basis of the F3 Trophy. The Austrian would now like to simplify the means of accessing F1 by grouping motorsport hopefuls into fewer disciplines.

“The Commission follows everything that happens between the karting and F1 and I find that the pyramid is very poorly formed at the moment. There are too many Championships and attention is getting scattered.", explains the former pilot Ferrari in the FIA InMotion magazine. “Spectators complain about the dispersion of the best drivers. They are found everywhere today: in F3, in GP3, in Formula Renault and in Formula Abarth. The system no longer does what it is supposed to do: provide a very talented driver with a CV that they can use to progress to F1. » The President of the FIA Single-Seater Commission has discussed new regulations to establish a single path from karting to F1.
