On the ropes Friday after an accident at Hockenheim (Germany), Pierre Gasly (Red Bull) reversed the trend on Saturday. During qualifying, the Frenchman achieved the fourth best time and will accompany Valtteri Bottas on the second line.
“It’s good to get such a result after the guys had to work overnight to repair the car, explains the Norman. It's never nice to put them in such a situation on a Friday night. I am happy to be able to reward them with this qualification in the second row. »

However, Pierre Gasly came close to elimination in Q1. “ It was a little stressful, we didn't manage to manage the tires well, to get them into the operating window. It wasn't ideal but we knew we had a lot going on. In Q2, we were on the pace from the start and after that we continued with this good dynamic. »
Q3 could have gone better due to a second attempt canceled by the stewards. “The last lap in Q3 was good (erased by the stewards for non-compliance with the track limits. Editor’s note). I think I could have done a little better because I lost time at turn 8 compared to my previous attempt", he acknowledges.
Despite this slight negative point, progress is clearly felt. “ Things are starting to fall into place, which is positive. Everything is not perfect yet, there are still ways to improve. We must continue to give everything to find those few hundredths that are still missing.
“Clearly, the Team is pushing massively, we have had good development. » @PierreGASLY on #Which at the #GermanGP https://t.co/UUwCfjy3Xu #F1 pic.twitter.com/u1kDzZN5uA

There are still things to improve, different areas together with the team. But I feel like I can express myself more, flirt more with the limit. There is still a small step to take but at least I feel that I can attack whenever I want. »
Finally, the weather forecast predicts showers during the day on Sunday. Enough to make the 2 GP2016 Series champion smile! “In Normandy, it rains a lot. Since I started when I was little, I have done twice as many laps in the wet as in the dry (laughs). These are nice conditions. It’s always more exciting because it creates opportunities and variety in strategies. It should be fun. »
