Serious accident for Robert Kubica in rally

Robert Kubica is passionate about rally. In January, he was unable to line up at the start of the Monte Carlo Rally because he had to take the wheel of a car from a competing brand. Renault. But a few days after setting the best time in the pre-season tests in Valencia, the Pole entered a small Italian rally called Ronde di Andora.

Kubica took the start at the wheel of a Skoda Fabia S2000 from the DP Autosport team. This is the first time that the winner of the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix has entered a rally aboard a four-wheel drive.

Alas, at 8:30 this morning, not far from the small town of San Lorenzo di Testico, Robert Kubica left the road before hitting a wall. After being stuck for many minutes in the passenger compartment of his Skoda, he was transported by helicopter to the hospital in Santa Corona di Pietra Ligure. He suffered several fractures to his leg and arm, and was placed in an artificial coma.
His co-pilot was not affected.

Robert Kubica should therefore miss the first rounds of the world championship Formula 1 2011. Lotus Renault GP will have to call on another driver for the Jerez test session next week (February 10-13) as well as for the start of the season. More information in the coming hours and Wednesday in AUTOhebdo.
