Grosjean and Magnussen optimistic from the third row at Hockenheim

Haas is having a checkered summer. After Romain Grosjean's great performance in Austria, the two drivers of the American team got stuck in Great Britain and fell back into trouble. Two weeks later, they are back at the forefront by signing the best qualification in the history of the brand in Formula 1 : Kevin Magnussen will start fifth, Romain Grosjean sixth in Germany.

On the Hockenheim track, the Franco-Danish pair was able to take advantage of the various glitches encountered by the top guns that are Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull, penalized in last place for the race) and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes, hydraulic failure). Opportunism is useful, but without speed it is useless. On this point, the Haas showed themselves to be at the forefront, being three tenths faster than the Renault.

“On a track where we were not convinced of our level of competitiveness, we did well, explained Romain Grosjean. It’s very encouraging and we are in a good place for the race. »

The Frenchman, however, felt that he could aim better. “We couldn't do a second attack lap in Q3 and before that I veered wide at the first corner. » Kevin Magnussen, for his part, achieved the objective set ahead of the weekend. « Can't beat the Red Bull, they are too fast, but we are the best of the rest. The race remains the biggest challenge. »

The Dane really hopes that the drivers in front of him will escape from the start, “this way we will benefit from clean air”. Günther Steiner, the team principal of Haas, contented himself with saying that this overall result “give you a very happy day”. The Austrian is now crossing his fingers that the two drivers get along well in the race…
