Grosjean best of the others: “The sensations are better than in 2018”

While Pierre Gasly wipe away the cast of his new adventure at Red Bull, he is a Frenchman who is starting the 2019 season under good auspices: Romain Grosjean. The pilot Haas set the sixth time in the qualifying session on Saturday March 15 in Melbourne (Australia), i.e. the best performance of a competitor outside the three leading teams (Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull).

« It was a very good ride. I feel comfortable in this car. In Q1 I left the pits late, I was only able to make one attempt but it was good. La car is fun to drive. There were a few gusts of wind on the circuit, but that didn't bother us.

The sensations are better than in 2018. The base is very, very promising. Yesterday the car was great during the long runs, I hope that will be the case again. I'm in a good mood », advances the Habs.

Romain Grosjean is also satisfied with the handling offered by his Haas VF-19, which has wings widened by 20 centimeters as required by the regulations. “These cars are amazing to drive. We have crazy aero support. The cars react even better. In the sequence of turns 11 and 12, I remember thatIn 2012 for my first time here, I had to drop a gear and brake to negotiate this passage. Now it goes almost completely and we don't change gear! »

Finally, the Frenchman refuses to let go. In Melbourne, the track and gravel pits are not far away. “ At the start, we will be careful with Kevin (Magnussen, his teammate, 7th). The front wing is wider this year, you have to take care of it and get through the first lap without any problem. Lots of things can happen in this first race. The sequence up to the third corner will be hot. »
