Hamilton owns his mistake with Albon

Lewis Hamilton lost his podium at the Brazilian GP and thus fell to 7th place. The pilot Mercedes was penalized 5 seconds at the end of the race for sending Alexander Alexander albon spinning in the final laps.

The Briton was able to finish the race with a damaged front wing, failing a few centimeters from the Toro Rosso de Pierre Gasly. The reigning champion immediately apologized when getting out of his W10.

“Gasly did a superb job, did he declare. I gave it my all, I’m not really disappointed. On the other hand, I regret having hurt Albon but I take full responsibility for it. It was my fault and I completely apologize to him. I tried to pass him by finding an opening, but he pulled back and I hit him. I would have liked to impose myself but the Red Bull were faster than us this weekend. »

For his part, Alexander Albon did not show signs of irritation towards his rival. The Red Bull driver even seemed to evoke a racing event with shared responsibilities.

“I knew Lewis was coming back quickly, admitted the Thai. I wasn't sure he was going to go over. I think it's a bit 50/50. I couldn't leave any more room. It’s the kind of situation where you hope the opponent won’t be there, but he was there this time. »

The big winner is Carlos Sainz Jr who won his first podium in F1. Unfortunately for the Spaniard, he was only able to celebrate his performance once the podium ceremonies were over. The pilot McLaren seemed frustrated with the situation while not being very verbose in the interview. This is the first podium for McLaren since the 2014 Australian GP.

“I am very happy with what I achieved today. It was a strange race, there were plenty of opportunities to be had and I gained many places in one stop.”, he commented.

Alexander Albon failed to finish in 15th place while aiming for his first F1 podium.
