Hamilton: “It’s not such a bad result”

One more time, Lewis Hamilton was on course to win the Italian Grand Prix, without any challenge from his opponents. But the improbable happened. The British driver received a ten-second stop and go for refueling while the pit lane was closed.

La Mercedes found herself last halfway through the race, stuck in traffic. Hamilton moved up to seventh position, far from his initial ambitions.

“It wasn’t my race today » he simply commented. “ I was a little unlucky. I had to make up 26 seconds, but in the end once I caught up with the peloton, I enjoyed this battle. »

Hamilton admits his mistake. “We didn’t do a good job with the pit stop. Honestly, I didn’t see those signs and I take responsibility for that, I’m going to learn from this mistake.”

You might think that Lewis Hamilton is the big loser of this crazy grand prix, since he should have won. Except that in the end, he performs a good operation.

“Finishing seventh with the fastest lap is always good points to come in, knowing that I really didn’t think I could come back that far. So I take and fortunately, Max [Verstappen] didn't score any points, it's not such a bad result today. »

Even his teammate Bottas finished only fifth, only two places better. The Finn took second place from Verstappen by seven points but remains 47 points behind Hamilton. The Briton therefore had reason to put things into perspective.
