Hamilton takes a Mercedes double in FP1 in Montreal

If you were hoping for a color change at the top of the timesheet, you will have to wait a little longer. Indeed, the Silver Arrows of Lewis Hamilton et Valtteri Bottas ideally launch the weekend of Mercedes on the banks of the St. Lawrence.

The Briton sets a time of 1'12''767 and is 0''147 ahead of his Finnish garage neighbor. The only downside for the gray house: Bottas had to interrupt his session a few minutes before the checkered flag due to a drop in fuel pressure on his W10. Remember that the German team introduced phase 2 of its in-house power unit in Montreal.

The closest pursuer is pushed back almost a full second; it is Charles Leclerc aboard the highest ranked Ferrari, which was announced to be more comfortable on the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, known to be demanding on the engine.

His teammate Sebastian Vettel must be satisfied with 5th place since the essential Max Verstappen once again manages to join the fight at the forefront. The Dutchman of Red Bull hoists his Honda-powered RB15 into 4th position.

His colleague Pierre Gasly signs a discreet performance with only the 13th time. The honorary place of “best of the rest” goes to veteran Kimi Räikkönen on the best of Alfa Romeo. The 2007 world champion precedes a Carlos Sainz, very lively on his McLaren for several races.

Daniel Ricciardo wins the 8th time aboard the Renault at the forefront, ahead of the Racing Point of Sergio Pérez and the Haas de Kevin Magnussen including teammate Romain Grosjean is only 15th.

Very prominent in Monaco, the Toro Rosso are not at the party at the moment. Alexander albon finished 16th, two places ahead of his sidekick Daniil Kvyat. Between them slips the local hero Lance stroll (RacingPoint).

The Montrealer was not the only Canadian in action this morning since Nicholas latifi, reservist Williams, replaced Robert Kubica in EL1. The Toronto native, current championship leader F2, finished last, two tenths behind the other Grove holder, George Russell.
