Hamilton: “I was shaking, because of the adrenaline rush and the tension that was falling”

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) is taking pole positions like ice cream at the start of summer. The Englishman scored his 76th pole on Saturday in Formula 1, the fourth in a row on the Silverstone circuit (Great Britain). The title holder also added style, stealing the best time from his rival Sebastian Vettel in his last attempt.

“The end of the session was very intense, admits the wearer of number 44. The first attempt was OK, then I saw that I had dropped to second place. This naturally adds extra pressure to you., I thought he (Vettel) was going to improve further, so I had to push the limits myself without wasting time. »

On his descent from car, Lewis Hamilton even had difficulty stopping his hands from shaking. “I feel like this is one of the best tricks ever accomplished (in qualifying). At least, I know that this is the round where I felt the most pressure. In the deceleration lap, I was shaking, from the adrenaline rush and the tension that was easing. It pushes back the sensations I could feel before, which is pretty crazy because it's the 76th pole! »

The poleman also took great pleasure in front of his audience. “It's the fastest circuit in the world: the first corner goes flat out, just like Copse or the Maggotts and Beckets sequence. We're going all out, it's crazy! It's such a technical and tricky track to properly position the car on each corner and make the best use of the tires. VSIt required a total commitment on my part. I saw the fans, I really wanted to give them pole. »

Does this ideal Saturday launch Lewis Hamilton towards new success at home on Sunday? “We are in the best possible position for tomorrow. Our pace in racing simulation is satisfactory, even if Ferrari has increased the pace since yesterday. »
