Honda ran out of time for its latest evolution

Honda is working hard to catch up with other engine manufacturers F1, but the Japanese supplier of McLaren ran out of time to complete the last evolution of his Power Unit during the summer break.

“We planned to introduce the 4th version of the engine here but we failed, recognized Yusuke Hasegawa at a press conference in the Belgian GP paddock. We were unable to meet the deadlines. So it’s only half an evolution. We called it 3.5 or 3.6, but we are not stopping the progression. »

Honda is nevertheless struggling to identify the contribution of this new version compared to the old one, the Spa-Francorchamps route and the conditions being too different.

“It is very difficult to compare the evolution of performance compared to the previous engine because it is a completely different circuit, but we were able to note good evolutions in performance here”, added Yusuke Hasegawa.

Stoffel Vandoorne has the advanced Power Unit, giving it several dozen penalty places on the Belgian GP grid, While Fernando Alonso has a similar version at the Hungarian Grand Prix last July.
