Horner: “Hülkenberg is better than some drivers on the grid”

Within the Red Bull galaxy, three seats are still theoretically free for next season: the two at Toro Rosso, and that of the teammate of Max Verstappen. In the facts, Alexander albon, current holder at Milton Keynes, his predecessor Pierre Gasly, and the former banished Daniil Kvyat are on course to continue, it remains to be seen in which stable. 

A reality which de facto excludes Nico Hulkenberg, but Christian Horner is the first to highlight the pilot’s talent Renault, who has already admitted that his destiny was no longer in his hands. 

« Nico is not on our shortlist, said the British manager at the FIA ​​press conference in Singapore. He is a great driver, extremely professional. It would be a real shame not to see him in F1 next year. He did not realize his full potential. I really hope for him that he finds a seat somewhere because he is better than some of the drivers on the grid and should be in Formula 1 ».

Concerning the distribution of steering wheels at Red Bull and Toro Rosso, Horner confirmed that all the selected candidates were already under contract with the Austrian can giant.

« We are lucky to be able to take our time, we don't need to rush, added the main team. We will analyze and evaluate Alex's progress and compare it to the performances of Daniil and Pierre ».
