Jenson Button: “Taking a step”

Slower than Lewis Hamilton, in qualifying and in the race, during the inaugural round of the world championship of F1 2010 last weekend, Jenson Button does not lose confidence yet. The 2009 champion has not yet managed to find the appropriate settings for his driving style.

“Lewis is an exceptional driver but most of the competitors on the grid are, declares the former resident of Brawn GP to Autosport. I don't think he was faster in qualifying because the team knew his way of working. There is no favoritism in the top teams these days, and that's great. I just have to find something in my balance car so that its behavior better adapts to my driving style. The engineers were very attentive to everything I told them and the discussions were very useful. »

However, the Brit admits that he must progress in qualifying:

« I didn't think that in qualifying he (Lewis, editor's note) would be fourth and me eighth. I thought we would be closer. Lewis did a great job and was faster. This is an area where I really need to improve. The positive point is the competitiveness of the car. After qualifying the whole team was disappointed. Not necessarily because of our positions on the grid but rather because of the gap that separated us from pole. But I think the race showed that we had a better car than qualifying had suggested. I'm happy with how this first round went. I would obviously have preferred to have more points but that is not the case. I go to the next race confident that we can take a step forward. »

As usual, Jenson Button is optimistic and does not complain, convinced that he will see better days, and why not from the Australian Grand Prix?
