Lately, Niki Lauda has been more discreet about the Grands Prix, notably not making trips to Hungary and Germany. The non-executive chairman of Mercedes-AMG F1 Team recently suffered a lung infection and has been in the hospital, in an intensive care unit, for over a week. His condition would have improved before deteriorating again, which is why he underwent an operation today, Thursday August 2.

According to the local daily Austria, Lauda is said to have caught a summer flu in Ibiza, which he had initially underestimated, before seeing that the symptoms were getting worse.
