The FIA dots the i’s

Last Thursday, the day before the publication of the entry list for the 2010 season, the FIA and certain members of FOTA (the association of racing teams Formula 1) met to discuss the future of F1 together. Although this discussion appears to have been very constructive for both parties, the FIA regrets that members of FOTA who were not present during the meeting described this meeting as a waste of time.

« There is clearly an element in FOTA that is determined to prevent an agreement from being finalized, regardless of the damage created. », We can read in the FIA press release. “ During this meeting, FOTA recognized that the FIA wanted to encourage the introduction of new teams to maintain its long-term economic viability. Agreement has been reached on technical regulations for 2010 which provide support for new teams in several key sectors. »

Furthermore, while there was no question of the amount of the budget cap on the day the list was published, it seems that the two parties are close to an agreement. “ The objectives of FOTA and FIA on cost reduction are now very close. Financial experts from both sides are expected to meet very soon to finalize the final details. »

Finally, the FIA proposed to stabilize the discipline by signing Concorde Agreements until 2014. This proposal seems to have been particularly well received by the FOTA members present. All these signs issued by the FIA seem to be going in the right direction. It remains to convince the last holdouts from FOTA to (finally) reach an agreement.
