Brazil does not intend to abandon its Grand Prix

While the Monza circuit seems to have finally found a solution to continue hosting the Italian Grand Prix, it is Brazil's turn to be threatened with exclusion from the calendar of the F1. Recent statements from Bernie Ecclestone, the director of the FOM, affirming that the Brazilian GP could experience its last edition this season have raised doubts about the future of the Interlagos circuit which is under renovation.

The organizers of the Sao Paulo circuit responded by press release to reassure about the future of the race.

“The circuit's engineering department welcomed the Brazilian press on June 22 (last Wednesday) to show the progress of the work which should be completed after three years. A $60 million (€53,85 million) program has been carried out to improve the infrastructure of the Interlagos classic circuit before the Brazilian Grand Prix is contested on November 11, 12 and 13. »

“The circuit, one of the favorites of drivers of all categories due to its demanding layout and the numerous overtaking opportunities it provides, has hosted the Brazilian Grand Prix since 1990 when the race was moved from Rio de Janeiro Janeiro. »

“The circuit's current contract is valid until 2020 and it is expected that conversations with the owners of the commercial rights (of F1) and the FIA to extend it for five years will take place after the municipal elections. The Brazilian Grand Prix is the only F1 race held in South America. The significant television coverage makes it one of the key events of the discipline. »

Despite the optimism of the organizers, the economic situation in Brazil remains worrying since the country is struggling to emerge from the recession.
