Brexit worries F1

If no agreement is reached by March 29, 2019, Great Britain will leave the European Union in a climate of unprecedented uncertainty.

Interrogates, Cyril Abiteboul, General Manager of Renault Sport Racing, does not mask his fear, he whose team is based in enstone.

“We would never have been able to develop so quickly without the opportunities offered by the United Kingdom. A no-deal Brexit would be very damaging, but I trust the British authorities to understand that it is not in their interest to lose what is one of the pillars of the country's industry. »

Same concern Mercedes concerning the movement of goods and people.

“We have EU citizens working for us, we import a lot of goods from the EU, asserts the executive director of Brackley, Toto wolff. We have taken steps but overall it is not a very pleasant development. »

Conversely, Brexiter from the start, Christian Horner, main team of Red Bull Racing, have no doubt that a solution will be found and that “People will continue to trade with the UK if it maintains its competitiveness and if the motorsport industry continues to perform well”.

An optimism shared by Maurizio Arrivabene, but for a completely different reason.

“If there is not a quick change in direction, we will see a lot of people knocking on the door of Maranello, quips the Italian before adding: but if we talk about the impact on the F1, it’s not really the best scenario.”

Long considered utopian, the hypothesis of a second referendum is now gaining ground to get the United Kingdom out of the political impasse in which the country is stuck.
