British Grand Prix disrupted by demonstrators?

The British police are worried a few hours before the start of free practice for the British Grand Prix (14 p.m.). She indicated that she had recovered evidence of the intention of certain spectators to invade the Silverstone circuit, and thus seriously disrupt the British meeting. According to information from our colleagues at ITV, police officers dispatched to Northamptonshire to ensure security at the British Grand Prix received “credible intelligence” that protesters could enter the circuit during the Grand Prix this Sunday, July 3. The British police have obviously encouraged potential perpetrators of such acts, however peaceful they may be, to reconsider their actions and call on spectators to be extremely vigilant if they detect suspicious behavior.

« We have received credible intelligence that a group of protesters were planning to disrupt the Grand Prix, and possibly invade the circuit on race day, summarized Chief Inspector Tom Thompson at ITV. Firstly, I appeal to them and strongly recommend that they do not endanger their lives, but also that of the drivers, track marshals, volunteers and spectators. Entering a circuit during a session is extremely dangerous. » Thompson says the police would be willing to facilitate a peaceful and safe demonstration if demonstrators contacted them. More than 400 spectators are expected at Silverstone and, as massive as it is, the police presence could be thwarted. “ I appeal to viewers to be vigilant and contact us if they notice anything fishy.«

Our British colleagues ignore the demands of potential demonstrators. However, they could be environmental activists. During the Premier League season (English football championship), environmental protesters attempted to hang on to the goal posts in the middle of a match on several occasions. In France, during the Roland-Garros tennis tournament, the semi-final between Casper Ruud and Marin Cilic was interrupted because a young activist had attached herself to the net. If such a situation were to occur on Sunday, it would not be the first time that the British Grand Prix had been disrupted. In 2003, an extremist priest entered the circuit, at Hangar Straight, in full swing. Let's hope we don't see this kind of scene again!
